How to play Never Have I Ever

The rules are gloriously simple. Someone reads a statement starting with Never have I ever, and anyone who has done that thing owns up. In the drinking version they take a sip; in the family-friendly version players put down a finger (start with ten raised, last one standing wins) or simply share the story behind their answer. The best rounds come from the stories, not the scorekeeping.

Choosing the right mode

Match the prompts to your group. Clean mode is perfect for classrooms, road trips, and mixed company; party mode adds cheekier prompts for friends; and the spicier sets are best saved for close adult friends who know what they are getting into. Reading the room is half the fun, and half the diplomacy.

Tips for a better round

Never Have I Ever shines as an ice-breaker because it reveals people gently and gets everyone talking. Keep groups to a comfortable size so nobody gets lost, encourage honesty (the confessions are the whole point), and let people pass on anything they would rather not answer. Pass the phone around or put it on a big screen and tap for the next prompt whenever the conversation slows.
